Hello friends and welcome to August! It feels that far too often I am welcoming us to a new month. Where does the time go?! School is starting back, football is on the horizon, and we are almost to the turn of the seasons. Thank goodness because I would like some cooler weather. Not cold, just would like to walk outside for more than 5 minutes without sweating. Until then, let’s enjoy this week’s review!
Things I Found Interesting

I am going to do my best to not rant here and sound like an a typical Gen Z kid. But, I don’t believe that we are supposed to lock down a job and work that job for 8 hours a day, 5 days a week, so that we can get 2 days of “relaxation” that really aren’t relaxing because you are catching up on all the chores you didn’t have time to do during the week. There is a solution to this - the four-day workweek. I currently have a four-day workweek at my job and it is a game changer. I get more done throughout the week, have an extra day to catch up on things around the house, and always go into Monday’s feeling refreshed. Hoping this becomes more common in the future!
I have spent plenty of time talking about A.I. and what seems to be coming. Well, a study was recently done that shows the jobs most likely to be replaced by A.I. and the jobs least likely to be replaced. Helpful information. This is a long, wicked smart report, and if you are like me and like pictures and graphs, jump to page 12 and 13 to see the graphs.
Do you remember summer camps as a kid? Not the moldy cabins, the stench of everyone’s body odor after playing games all day, but all the fun and long lasting memories with friends? Well, apparently adults are missing that feeling. Adult summer camps are on the rise. I personally don’t think this is all that silly, I like it. We need to get outside more, build community, and do things we used to do as kids. Pretty neat to see this trend start to rise.
Australia once again ahead of the game. They already banned social media apps for kids 16 and under, and now, they are banning Youtube. Now, I don’t have kids yet so I am in no position to give parenting advice. But the increase in the amount of kids sitting at a table in a restaurant, staring endlessly at their iPad screens watching who knows what is just not okay. Yes you are distracting your kids, but at what cost? And also, these algorithms are getting smart. They know when a little boy is watching a video. It can easily put inappropriate thumbnails for them to check out. We’ve got to do better!
Picture Of The Week
Nothing like a post-work round of golf. This was inspired by the logo for the Broken Tee Society from Golfer’s Journal.
On My Mind
We need to slow down. Way too often, I will be driving and it seems like the people around me are FLYING. Riding my tail, zooming around me, no care at all, just in a hurry. Granted, I am guilty of this. It just seems like everyone is in a rush. I think everyone would benefit from taking some deep breaths and slow things down. Go for a walk without a phone, take your time getting from point A to point B. Talk to the stranger. Don’t rush your life away.

Song of the Week
I love some 80’s country music. The other night, I was driving home and decided to roll the windows down and turn this up. Instantly felt like the coolest person on the road.
Motivation for the Week
“O God of wonder, enlarge my capacity to be amazed at what is amazing and end my attraction to the insignificant." - Dr. John Piper
This is a little bit of a continuation from last week’s motivation. I have found myself looking at material or worldly things and letting that be my goal or focus. And don’t get me wrong, I am a big believer in goals and wanting to have nice things while we spend our time here on earth but I think putting so much value on them is not the way to go.
Instead, my goal is to focus on the wonder of the Lord’s works in my life. His almighty power and mercy that is gifted to me. I want to find more appreciation for that then for trivial pursuits.
Hoping you have a great first weekend of August. Get outside, put down the phone, and enjoy the wonderful gift of life.
Cheers,
JH
You have always had a mind that is rational and smart You have always had the ability to analyze events that you could see happening and here we are, killing ourselves, overworked, underpaid and exhausted mentally and physically.
Recently I worked with a German Company. Their vacations last over a month and leave work behind, completely.
Thanks Jake for the crucial reminder!
