Well hello there! Welcome back to our favorite day of the week… Weekly Review Saturday! Hope you all had a great week back to work after the holiday weekend. It was a busy one over here. But no complaints whatsoever. This past week, severe flooding has devasted parts of New Mexico and Texas. Lives lost, families dealing with the unimaginable. Join me in lifting up prayers for them! Now, let’s get into this week’s review.
Things I Found Interesting
All article links are in bold italics.
I mentioned the floods happening in Texas, and there are countless people on the ground providing various resources. I want to spotlight one specific individual, Scott “Big Rusk” Ruskan. He is a Coast Guard Petty Officer who rescued over 165 victims last week. His team decided to leave him there and while waiting, he treated victims, encouraged them, and helped them get to safety. A true American hero. When asked about his efforts, he replied, “I was just doing my job.” Legend.
The rise of smart watches and fitness trackers has taken over in our modern world today. Majority of people have a Garmin, Apple Watch, you name it. And now, you even have tracking/posting apps like Strava that uploads your workout data from the watch. I have all of this so I am not about to hate on it, but, what if I told you that it could be dangerous for your privacy? This wild article shows how Strava exposed the Swedish PM's security detail. Crazy stuff. Now, I am not as important as a Prime Minister but still, be cautious of what you put out there!
A couple of years ago, my wife and I got TSA Precheck. We thought we were so cool, rolling up to the security line and breezing right through. Laptop could stay in the bag, didn’t have to take my belt off, and most importantly, could leave my shoes on. Well, looks like that perk will (thankfully) be universal. Pretty exciting news! Exposing the dogs on that airport floor is criminal for all involved parties. However, I will now be requesting a new Precheck perk!
All the talk nowadays is about Artificial Intelligence and how it’s coming for our jobs. I am not a fear mongering type of guy but still, it is a little worrisome to think about in a job market that is already tough for a lot of people. The Amazon CEO stated the other day that A.I. will lead to smaller workforces. However, I believe that real skills will always be in demand. If you’re worried about the future of work, find a way to differentiate yourself and standout. A.I. can’t replicate you.
On My Mind
Hope is not a strategy. Create your own breaks. Okay, I can’t totally claim this one. Last week, a group of us went and saw the new F1 movie. First off, wow. An amazing film. I am a big Formula 1 fan and I was well pleased with it. Anyways, I digress. There is a line in the movie that says the above quote and I really have been thinking about it the last week. We often “hope” for a better outcome without ever doing the work for it. You can’t say, “I hope to lose 30 pounds.” No, you create a plan and get after it. Concept applies to many areas in life.

Song of the Week
I just love Fleetwood Mac. I rolled my windows down and cranked this up on the way home the other day. Just a vibe.
Motivation for the Week
“To do something well is so worthwhile that to die trying to do it better cannot be foolhardy. It would be a waste of life to do nothing with one's ability, for I feel that life is measured in achievement, not in years alone.”
― Bruce McLaren
I already told y’all I saw the F1 movie so I am just on a kick currently. Bruce McLaren, racer and founder of McLaren, gave this amazing quote.
There’s something sacred about giving your all to something that matters. Striving for excellence, pouring your energy into doing something well, is never foolish. It’s purpose. McLaren reminds us that life isn’t simply about surviving the years. Instead, it’s about what we do with them. Wasting your abilities, your potential, that’s the real tragedy. But to spend your days sharpening your craft, chasing mastery, and pushing the edge of what’s possible? That’s a life fully lived. Let others count the years.
McLaren died at the young age of 32 years old. However, his legacy lives on.
Thank you for reading and wishing you a wonderful weekend. Use it, don’t waste it.
Cheers,
JH
